What’s the Buzz: Trend Report from Spring Furniture Market

Buzz, Design Inspiration
Having just returned from this year’s furniture market in High Point, North Carolina, I thought I would share my thoughts on trends and forecasts. First let me just say there was a lot of discussion  and controversy over the most recent legislation passed in North Carolina - the HB2 law; and I will say that we have the support of our North Carolina partners to publicly stand against it. Modern was definitely the theme of this year’s market and styles tended to be smaller scale and transitional. Neutrals were definitely the theme along with a lot of blues; and grey is still the dominant finish on wood products . Live edge or raw edge was still very popular along with varying degrees of metal bases, and all size cocktail and dining tables.…

a day late but “what’s the buzz” about leap year…?

Buzz
Leap Year!!!! February 29, only comes every four years and enjoy it before it is gone.  We have all whined that we need more time and if we only had a few extra hours.   Well today is the day you are getting 24 extra hours. So what are you going to do with it? Probably not even notice will be my guess, because we are all scurrying around trying to catch up.  What we should be setting aside this extra day is time for ourselves.  And we should  splurge on something totally out of the ordinary and your daily routine. Go to the movies in the middle of the afternoon, take a bubble bath, got to a high tea at a nice hotel,  and just watch everyone scurrying around while…

what’s the buzz?

Buzz
I am buzzing my way back into the blog after a rather long hiatus. I know I talked a lot about the wedding and getting into the mother of the bride shape but that is all ancient history now and so is the “shape.” Fast forward a few years and now I am the happiest grandma in the universe! I have always heard that there is nothing like grandchildren but just thought that was a bunch of new Grandmothers bragging to the moms with grown children and no grandchildren. I am here to say that all the hype is true and I have the most incredible and delightful grandson named “Charlie”. First it all starts with the name - what is he going to call you? Apparently this is a very big deal…

August Buzz The summer of love may have been 45 years ago in 1967 but I feel that a revolution of love has happened this summer.  The summer of 67’ was one of alternative love, the love occurring around me now is definitely more conventional.  I know I have been writing about my being the mother of the bride, and all the preparation that surrounds the event, but at the same time I have been a guest at a few weddings this summer, it has been a marathon of sorts! Right here in our own Circle Furniture family, three are tying the knot in various ways. Heather chose to elope in June, Karen, in her parents back yard and Sarah will have a destination wedding in Maine.  Love has been…

April buzz Well, I have finally drunk the Kool Aid and purchased an Ipad. Count me in as one of the cool kids! The plan was to become a master of the Ipad before I went to the High Point Furniture Market this past week but that wasn’t exactly easy. I did learn how to take pictures and post to Facebook, where I had success SOMETIMES. Honestly, there isn’t enough room in my brain to remember all these passwords, so I’m constantly resetting them and forgetting them…it would be hilarious if it wasn’t so frustrating! So in the beginning I loved how thin and light the Ipad seemed but by the end of the day it felt like a brick in my bag. Sig, our beloved purchaser, told me it was…

March Buzz Brrrrr. Why is it so cold outside?  It’s only 50 degrees and it is late March…what is with this? Has reality really set in? Please let us live the fantasy for the rest of the season. We have been so fortunate to have enjoyed such a mild winter and warm spring that now I can almost understand why people move because of the weather. Everyone has been in such a better mood all year; could it be the less clothing you have to wear, the happy you are?  I think we shed attitude with the level of outwear required.  This winter people were strolling at a leisurely pace in the streets, rather than running and dodging to get inside real quick. I wonder if the warm weather will affect…

February Buzz February, where did the month go? I can’t remember a February in my lifetime when I didn’t have to shovel out the driveway at least once after a major snowfall. We started the month with Punxatawny Phil declaring that yes, we will have 6 more weeks of winter. Apparently we didn’t get the memo around here because we have been basking in spring like weather all month. What else? Well, we all suffered through another Valentines Day and I do hope Cupid struck in a few places. I happened to be ill the week before V-Day and spent a lot of time watching TV. I was amazed how many shows had a Valentines Day theme. Most of them were quite dreadful and really didn’t celebrate Love Day in…
