Save on big-ticket items this Sales Tax Holiday at your local retailer or online. What is Tax-Free Weekend? (Also known as the Massachusetts Sales Tax Holiday)  You may have heard chatter about it in the past but this year is the first year that the MA state government planned ahead to assure a sales tax holiday weekend. In 2018, after a two-year hiatus, the sales tax holiday came back and it is here to stay based on the Grand Bargain signed by Gov. Charlie Baker in 2018. This new legislation established the MA Tax holiday will happen annually and the date will be determined by June 15th each year, rather than late July as it had been previously.  Why should you care?  For large purchases, such as furniture, the Massachusetts…

We’re so excited to have had the opportunity to work with the iconic local PBS program, This Old House. Brian Bechard, our Visual Merchandiser, and Erica Tubman, Communications Director, give us the inside scoop on what it was like to be featured on This Old House. He says of the project, “We had worked with This Old House 10 years ago on a couple of different projects. When this house came along they thought of us because they knew we have mid-century modern pieces in our collection.” The furniture selection process The house, in Brookline, features mid-century modern architecture and our goal was to have the interiors to reflect that style. Brian chose and arranged furniture for the living room, the loft, the dining area, the master bedroom, and the…

Community Connections: Pembroke Art Show

Community Connections: Pembroke Art Show

Colorful Ideas, Community and Boston, Events and Fundraisers, Fun Report, General, Pick of the Week
We make a constant effort to create connections within our community. Recently, we hosted an Art Show Brunch in our Pembroke location, inviting local artists to display their work. The art show was the brainchild of Lucia Ventura, our manager in Pembroke, who, as an artist herself, wanted to host a new kind of event in the store. I spoke to Lucia and the artists to hear their perspective on this outstanding event. How it came together The idea came about when Rita Berkowitz, an artist and old friend of Lucia’s, dropped by the store to buy furniture. Together, they came up with the idea of an art show, and the rest came together naturally. “It all fell right into place, and all of the artists that I spoke to…

Community and Boston, Eco Friendly, Events and Fundraisers, Fun Report, General, Pick of the Week, Things To know
We’re passionate about supporting the local community, both by partnering with local businesses and supporting local charities in any way we can. Today we’re putting a spotlight on an organization we’ve been partnered with for over 20 years. Save the Harbor/Save the Bay was founded in 1986. We’ve been working with them since 1996, and have since formed a long-lasting and mutually rewarding relationship. The Circle family feels strongly about restoring and protecting the Boston harbor, and we’re proud to be aligned with an organization that cares equally about the beautiful city we live in. Who are they? We met with Bruce Berman, director of Strategy and Communications, to talk about our partnership with them and what the charity has accomplished. He described, “Save the Harbor was founded with a clear mission:…

The merchandising team has returned from the Fall High Point Market in North Carolina with exciting new home décor trends. After visiting many showrooms, we found several common threads throughout. Here are some of the top trends we took away from this High Point Market visit. Shades of blue The first trend that was prevalent throughout Market was the color blue. As far as shades of blue, they varied, but navy in particular dominated. Blue is soothing, calming, creating an oceanic feeling, whether seen on furniture, wall coverings, or artwork. It's an easy color to bring into the home and looks beautiful contrasted against warmer, orange tones as well as weaved into a cooler toned palette. Our Davis sofa, featured in Indigo, is a lush, jewel-toned addition to any space.…

We all love color. There is nothing better than throwing a fresh coat of paint on a wall to liven our space. Clean. Fresh. Ahhh. Inspiring, yes? Last week we were thrilled to host an event in our Boston store featuring Lisa Teague from Quiet Home Paints. Lisa, and her partner/daughter Andi, teamed up to create a line of paint that boasts vibrant, beautiful colors and is safe for the home. The paints are odorless, solvent-free, no VOC's, and water-based.  They are free of pesticides, herbicides and entirely non-toxic.  Lisa and Andi have created a fabulous paint line and we want our customers to know about it. In our Boston and Cambridge stores we have a small kiosk   with samples of QHP's brilliant and refreshing paint colors. Soon we will…
