Creating a calm and peaceful environment in your home is incredibly important. Brian Bechard, our Visual Merchandiser, explains, “There are so many stresses in life. Your home should be the one place you can turn to as a sanctuary and a safe haven.” Because ‘calm’ means something different to everyone, there are no steadfast rules here. It all comes down to personal preference. We’re here to be your guide to all things calm so you can feel relaxed in your home. Consider the calm The first place to start is to consider what calm means to you. What colors are soothing to you? How does your environment currently affect your mood? Brian says, “The bottom line to creating a space that feels calming and relaxing is surrounding yourself with things…

Community Connections: Pembroke Art Show

Community Connections: Pembroke Art Show

Colorful Ideas, Community and Boston, Events and Fundraisers, Fun Report, General, Pick of the Week
We make a constant effort to create connections within our community. Recently, we hosted an Art Show Brunch in our Pembroke location, inviting local artists to display their work. The art show was the brainchild of Lucia Ventura, our manager in Pembroke, who, as an artist herself, wanted to host a new kind of event in the store. I spoke to Lucia and the artists to hear their perspective on this outstanding event. How it came together The idea came about when Rita Berkowitz, an artist and old friend of Lucia’s, dropped by the store to buy furniture. Together, they came up with the idea of an art show, and the rest came together naturally. “It all fell right into place, and all of the artists that I spoke to…

Dining Furniture: A Conversation with a Local Craftsman

After visiting another of our local vendors, we continue to be impressed by the attention and care that our partners put into every aspect of furniture making. We visited the factory who make our Alden Collection, located in Winchendon, MA, a few stepping stones away from where it used to be located, in Gardner. Gardner was and remains to be to known for, its hustling and bustling furniture community. A sense of history and pride runs through their business as they're essentially the last factory standing in what used to be a hub of furniture making in Massachusetts. Who are they? As for why they make furniture, it wasn’t happenstance. The owner, Peter is, in his own words, “deep into the craft of making furniture.” And they’ve been making it,…

Spotlight on a Charity We Love: Save the Harbor/Save the Bay

Community and Boston, Eco Friendly, Events and Fundraisers, Fun Report, General, Pick of the Week, Things To know
We’re passionate about supporting the local community, both by partnering with local businesses and supporting local charities in any way we can. Today we’re putting a spotlight on an organization we’ve been partnered with for over 20 years. Save the Harbor/Save the Bay was founded in 1986. We’ve been working with them since 1996, and have since formed a long-lasting and mutually rewarding relationship. The Circle family feels strongly about restoring and protecting the Boston harbor, and we’re proud to be aligned with an organization that cares equally about the beautiful city we live in. Who are they? We met with Bruce Berman, director of Strategy and Communications, to talk about our partnership with them and what the charity has accomplished. He described, “Save the Harbor was founded with a clear mission:…

High Point Market: Fall Trend Report

Buzz, Circle Furniture News, Colorful Ideas, Design Inspiration, Designers, Events and Fundraisers, General, Pick of the Week
The merchandising team has returned from the Fall High Point Market in North Carolina with exciting new home décor trends. After visiting many showrooms, we found several common threads throughout. Here are some of the top trends we took away from this High Point Market visit. Shades of blue The first trend that was prevalent throughout Market was the color blue. As far as shades of blue, they varied, but navy in particular dominated. Blue is soothing, calming, creating an oceanic feeling, whether seen on furniture, wall coverings, or artwork. It's an easy color to bring into the home and looks beautiful contrasted against warmer, orange tones as well as weaved into a cooler toned palette. Our Davis sofa, featured in Indigo, is a lush, jewel-toned addition to any space.…

Handmade Furniture: a Tour of a Local Woodshop

Eco Friendly, General, Random, Things To know
Recently, we had a chance to visit a local woodshop that we’ve been partnered with for over 30 years and get a peek into their daily routine. They’ve been making hardwood furniture for around 35 years, and they specialize in bedroom furniture as well as mirrors, tables, and occasionally media cabinets. We spoke to Chris who’s been with them for 19 years. He describes the wood they use for their pieces, “Everything we do is cherry, but our secondary woods for the drawer sides are pine. Most of our cherry comes from the Alleghany National Forest in Pennsylvania.” Sustainability Caring for, and not harming, the environment is important to them and they take care to ensure that the wood they source is from sustainable forests and that trees are continually…

Colorful Ideas, Design Inspiration, Designers, General, Pick of the Week, Things To know, Tips and Tricks
Upholstery and interior design trends are constantly in flux. And, as with everything else, it’s important to invest in pieces that work for you and your lifestyle. That being said, learning about the latest trends will inspire you, inform you, and help you along your design journey.   High Style, High Performance There are a few key elements in upholstery that are trending right now, including layering textured styles, and softened shapes. But the main takeaway? You want a fabric that looks beautiful but isn’t high maintenance. In other words, as Catherine Willey, our store manager in Framingham, likes to call it, “High-Style and High-Performance.” While patterns and color trends come and go, the trend is consistently moving towards fabrics that are made for real life. You might have small…
