Rainy days

Design Inspiration
With a full week of rain in the forecast this week, we all need a little inspiration. Ironically, I found this little tidbit on Apartment Therapy's LA blog, what do they know about rain?!? Either way, I like it, and in fact I added my own number 4 for good measure: Here are three free ways to improve the look of your place quickly: 1.) Switch the places of two pieces of furniture. Maybe switch that bookshelf you have in the living room with a buffet you have in the dining room. Or maybe put a chair in a weird place, like the kitchen or bathroom. Just infusing a little bit of surprise and variety in your rooms will spice up the space (and provide for a little exercise while you're stuck…

Design Inspiration – Gingerbread House Fun

Design Inspiration, Holidays
This week I thought I'd turn our Design Inspiration attention to the good ole' Gingerbread House. Tis' the season, right? [caption id="attachment_1286" align="aligncenter" width="270" caption="(via bon appetit)"][/caption]   So, not only is the Gingerbread House a fun project for you and the kids, it's also edible! Love that. It's also something you can be creative with. Just like re-doing your home, you can paint, landscape and decorate your Gingerbread House any way you want. [caption id="attachment_1284" align="aligncenter" width="240" caption="(via Martha Stewart)"][/caption] Of course, there are those out there who are planning a holiday open house this weekend and would much rather have someone build one for them, rather than spend hours baking, icing and putting the finishing touches on. To you I give this gift. The Gingerbread Construction Company has…

Design Inspiration: Creating Comfort

Design Inspiration, Holidays
(via Lonny) Thanksgiving is coming up next week. As you are figuring out where to seat everyone for the big meal, perhaps you'll consider thinking outside the box. I don't know about you, but halfway through that much anticipated turkey dinner, I'm ready to fall asleep. Why not make your table the image of comfort? Maybe that means pillows on your dining room chairs, or using a couch (gasp!) for some of the seating. Who made up the rule we have to eat in chairs anyways? It might just mean making the table setting simpler and more homey. Less flowers, more candles or vice versa. Create a space for your celebration that people won't want to get up from. The kind that brings about those long and laughter filled conversations…
