As a kid I always gravitated towards the orange-red crayon in the Crayola 64 box – thus, I was obviously excited to see that perfectly rich shade dubbed famous by Pantone this year. Tangerine Tango has been happily splashed all over the Spring 2012 fashion runways, hardware store’s paint aisles, and even the lipstick section in the drugstore.

We’re thrilled to get into the Tango-ing spirit at Circle Furniture this year. Go for bold pieces, like the Nautilus Rug and Bella Chair, for a serious statement. Or you can tone down the tangerine a little bit with the earthy-orange Pippa Sofa, and intricate Deco Copper Rug.

Well, I have finally drunk the Kool Aid and purchased an Ipad. Count me in as one of the cool kids! The plan was to become a master of the Ipad before I went to the High Point Furniture Market this past week but that wasn’t exactly easy. I did learn how to take pictures and post to Facebook, where I had success SOMETIMES. Honestly, there isn’t enough room in my brain to remember all these passwords, so I’m constantly resetting them and forgetting them…it would be hilarious if it wasn’t so frustrating!

So in the beginning I loved how thin and light the Ipad seemed but by the end of the day it felt like a brick in my bag. Sig, our beloved purchaser, told me it was heavy because I took so many pictures it was adding weight, and for a few seconds he had me believing it! I love taking pictures and sending e-mails on the Ipad because I never figured it out on my phone. I’m also horrible at texting. My texts resemble mostly just gobbledygook. My kids will attest to my texts, some were hysterical; others looked like I had created a downright new language. Needless to say, I gave up texting.

Now with my Ipad I have a nice BIG keyboard. LOVE IT! It’s coming in very handy for wedding planning as I can snap pictures of dresses and send them to my daughter on the spot. Of course last week I was in the mall and got frustrated why the emails weren’t going through and finally I realized I didn’t have Wi-Fi turned on, so when she finally got the pictures…let’s just say they were sent multiple times (much like that person who keeps pushing the elevator button, it doesn’t help but doesn’t change the outcome either).

I told my husband to get me the 4G and he said he would if I could tell him what that meant; I couldn’t. I also didn’t know that you have to activate the service or learn how to log on to different networks. He gave me this thing called a hotspot which allows me access Wi-Fi; problem is I have to keep charging it. I now have to plug in my phone, Ipad and hot spot to stay connected and fully charged. Thankfully I didn’t need the Wi-Fi for reading a book because I just finished Fifty Shades of Gray and would not have been happy if I had to wait for my hotspot to recharge!!!

Oh technology, sometimes I long for days of newspapers, books and good old-fashioned telephone calls, don’t you?

March Buzz

Brrrrr. Why is it so cold outside? It’s only 50 degrees and it is late March…what is with this? Has reality really set in? Please let us live the fantasy for the rest of the season. We have been so fortunate to have enjoyed such a mild winter and warm spring that now I can almost understand why people move because of the weather. Everyone has been in such a better mood all year; could it be the less clothing you have to wear, the happy you are? I think we shed attitude with the level of outwear required. This winter people were strolling at a leisurely pace in the streets, rather than running and dodging to get inside real quick. I wonder if the warm weather will affect the birth rate. That does happen. We’ll have to wait and see.

Of course I have a theory about why we have had the extreme weather changes and I’m sure others have thought the same thing. There has been a tremendous amount of hot air blowing as the race for the White House has begun. It’s going to be a “long-winded” road but at least we can benefit from the hot air.

I fully expect there to be a snowstorm in the next month or so, otherwise I will think I’m living on another planet and not in New England. Please don’t put the shovels and snow blowers away just yet. I actually was raking my yard last week, by the way, I hate yard work. I have retired those tools and won’t take them out again till the fall (we like the natural look of the yard anyway). Good thing we live on a dead end street where a lot of people go for the natural look or we could be fired from suburbia! I walk around the neighborhoods and the yards are so stellar, but I never see any people. Walk around the city in the warm weather and it is so wonderful to see so many people buzzing around. During the recent power outage in Boston, where our store did lose power for a day, people were out and about and super friendly. If they live in the city I know why, they don’t have to rake! They can spend the nice weather walking about and enjoying the parks.

I watch House Hunters a lot and couples always want to buy a house with a yard and big kitchen for entertaining. I don’t believe them, they only entertain once or twice a year and the kids are sitting in front of video games. What they really need is a place for the big screen and an open concept {the buzz words} so everyone can watch and prepare food from the kitchen. Of course maybe this year there will be a lot more outside time, as I am listening to the radio and the air is getting warmer. Oh gosh, it is going to be a long HOT summer…

My favorite part of this amazing weather has been shedding my grey-and-black winter wardrobe and embracing bright color a little early this year. Usually it takes me a little longer to come out of hibernation, but the 70-degree temperatures have jolted me into a Technicolor mood. Spring trends are all about mixing and matching bold colors and textures.

Excited about incorporating spring’s beautiful color combinations into your home? Kuler is the perfect tool to use (and it’s free). The program helps you create color schemes that look amazing, with just a click of a button.

Let’s say you’re wondering what shade of blue paint would look great on the wall next to that carpet you’ve been eyeing on the Circle Furniture website (I’ve been drooling over the Gardenia Sky Rug). All you have to do is upload the photo of the rug and try out different moods. Colorful, bright, muted, deep, and dark combinations are automatically set to sample different colors in your image. Or simple create a custom one that’s perfectly tweaked to your liking.

If you want to create a color scheme from scratch, you can pick all different types of color combinations – from complementary, to compound, to shades – and play around with it to get exactly what you want.

Start channeling your inner artist and have fun!

February Buzz

February, where did the month go? I can’t remember a February in my lifetime when I didn’t have to shovel out the driveway at least once after a major snowfall. We started the month with Punxatawny Phil declaring that yes, we will have 6 more weeks of winter. Apparently we didn’t get the memo around here because we have been basking in spring like weather all month.

What else? Well, we all suffered through another Valentines Day and I do hope Cupid struck in a few places. I happened to be ill the week before V-Day and spent a lot of time watching TV. I was amazed how many shows had a Valentines Day theme. Most of them were quite dreadful and really didn’t celebrate Love Day in a very special way. Why do we do this to ourselves… suffering through the disappointment of not having that someone special on Valentines Day? Doesn’t everyone know it’s all made up by Hallmark, the chocolate industry and jewelers? Of course, on the other hand who wouldn’t want some nice bling, Godiva and a sweet card or some roses? I guess that’s why we suffer through it every year. Of course, you all know that I cannot have any chocolate pass these lips because the countdown is on for “Mother of the Bride Day”, so I wasn’t too disappointed when none arrived for me. Roses did arrive, which I can’t eat, so he is safe.

Then we found ourselves around the time of year with school vacation week and Washington’s Birthday. I bet George didn’t know his big day was going to be all about the shopping. Especially cars. I guess he needed to move around a lot and the car industry picked up on getting you there in style and comfort, and of course a good price every February sale. The absolute best part of last week had to be the traffic, not sure where everyone was but boy, it was great! Twice last week I had to commute a longer distance than usual during the commuting rush and it was a piece of cake. I honestly don’t remember taking this week off when my kids were younger but I’m glad that a lot of people did to make my ride so much more pleasant.

This year we have a very special day, February 29th, which only happens every 4 years so we get a bonus day. I am going to savor that day and really sit back and smell my Valentine roses. I always say that time goes by so fast, so when we are given an extra day to balance out the lunar calendar, I say celebrate! I for one will create my own special holiday. February has become my new favorite month.
